How To Give Advice

Based on Uzi’s upcoming new book:

                    GRATITUDE AND NOT ATTITUDE

Have you ever given advice and been told “shut up” or “who asked you?”

Or made a suggestion and gotten back resentment instead of gratitude?

Good advice can be a valuable gift that we offer people. Yet, sometimes in spite of our best intentions, our feedback is not appreciated, and is sometimes even resented. The ability to offer input in a positive and constructive way is an art.

I have experienced all this up close. I have given people advice, intending to be helpful, and seen how it resulted in failed conversations and ruptured relationships. I have also been on the receiving end, getting advice I didn’t want and feeling resentful about it. I have seen relationships I had with some people suffer because of the way they gave advice.

In this tele-course you will discover how to give advice. You will learn how to listen, how to make sure your advice is welcome, how to offer it so that people feel grateful, how to check that it is useful, and when not to offer advice at all.

The result will be that you will give less advice, and the advice you do give advice will be appreciated, whether or not people follow your ideas. In short, you will know “how to give advice and get back gratitude and not attitude.”

In this phone-conference course, based on my upcoming book, you will learn:

  • 5 skills for giving good advice effectively
  • How to identify exceptions
  • When not to give advice
  • 2 key mistakes to avoid
  • Underlying approach of dignity, respect and consideration for the other

This course covers around two thirds of the material of the Communicating with Compassion course. How is this Advice course different?  This course:

  • Explores the 5 skills of giving advice in much more depth
  • Spends much less time on the skills of listening
  • Is appropriate for all situations, and not only when emotions are present
  • Is a seminar and not a mastery class: there will be  time for questions but it does not include practice and coaching

Attend the first session as my gift and see if it is right for you.

Actually, I don’t guarantee satisfaction; I guarantee exceptional value: “If after completing the course you do not believe that you received exceptional value for the time and tuition you invested, tell me what was not satisfactory in the course and I will refund your tuition.”
